Developer's Update: Developer Kits and Workshop

Hi Chieftains!

That's right, we've got some exciting news to share with you again! Recently, Maggie has been hard at work with our talented Mod creators, conducting initial tests on Mods and our developer tools. Now, we believe it's the perfect time to introduce these tools to you guys!

Yes, in our upcoming major update at the end of September, Soulmask will officially offer user-generated content creation tool: say hello to the Devkit!

What can you do with the Devkit? What new UGC content can we expect for Soulmask? You'll be able to dive into all of it very soon, but for now, let's give you a sneak peek!

First up, we're super excited to introduce our Devkit: This is our newly developed Soulmask content editor, built entirely from the ground up using Unreal Engine!

So, what's possible with this tool? Let's start with what everyone loves—characters!

NPC Modifications:

You have the freedom to modify nearly every aspect of our existing characters and creatures. This includes swapping out models (just be mindful of the poly count…), tweaking AI behaviors, altering skeletons, and even creating a custom set of animations! It’s all up to you—whether you want to make your tribesmen more dynamic or transform every creature into something entirely different. For example, Our video director Jimmy, who has a phobia of snakes, turned the anaconda into an adorable little boar. It’s a simple, yet effective solution!

We’ve also enabled creators to design their own unique tribesman blueprints. You can use our existing skeletons or create new ones to craft your very own monsters or barbarians, complete with custom skills, AI behavior trees, loot drops, and more. Want to bring in a character from another world? Now you can!

Finally, you can place your newly created characters wherever you like in the world. We’ll be rolling out updates for this feature soon. Whether you’re dreaming of building your own dungeon or transforming your tribesmen into something completely unexpected, the choice is yours!

Jimmy looked for many of his favourite…Hmm

Construction Modifications:

Beyond NPC, construction is another area we’re deeply passionate about. You have the freedom to customize every aspect of your building components—their shape, material, and all associated properties: durability, construction requirements, collision settings, anchor points… you name it. This allows you to create your own unique architectural style and aesthetic. Whether it’s baroque, oriental, or something entirely unconventional that might not traditionally suit a rainforest setting, what truly matters is that it’s something you love!

Considering a unique workbench? You can design your own recipes and functional buildings, and even introduce entirely new features if you wish. We provide a wide range of options for functional buildings. How about a vanity table where your tribesmen can change their appearance? Why not!

Item/Gear Modifications:

Want to create your own items? Absolutely! We support custom creations for nearly all item types in Soulmask. You can define their effects using GE, set the animations for item usage, and adjust almost every post-use mechanic you can think of. I know some of you are eager to turn the portal into a usable item…

How about a brand-new weapon or piece of armor? You have complete creative freedom! From designing the recipe and choosing the equipment slot, to customizing character animations and fine-tuning damage parameters, you can create a weapon that’s entirely your own—or even introduce a completely new weapon type! I heard someone’s interested in developing gunpowder weapons…

Or maybe you're thinking of designing a new saddle? The Devkit allows you to fully customize mount saddles, including animations for mounting and dismounting!

Of course, all of these creations can be tied to recipes. You can set up crafting stations, determine the required proficiency levels, and assign quality tiers.

What else is there?

If we were to list every feature of the Devkit, this developer log would turn into a ten-page manual (which, by the way, we do have!). Instead, I want to offer you a glimpse of the endless possibilities this tool provides—from crafting entirely new creatures and levels to designing whole new maps. Our goal is to give creators the freedom to bring any idea to life.

Keep in mind that the current version is still in testing, and we’ll continue to improve it based on feedback from creators like you. If you’re eager to start testing the tools and creating Mods today, we’d love to have you join our dedicated Mod creator Discord channel.

Now, where can you experience all the amazing creations from the community?

That’s right—we’ve partnered with Steam to launch our very own Workshop alongside the Devkit!

Just like other Steam Workshops, we’re committed to making sure you can upload and share all the content you create with fellow Soulmask players. Whether it’s a burly sailor or a metallic giraffe, let your imagination run wild!

One last thing…

Lastly, let’s circle back to the most important question:
What Mods do you want to see on the Steam Workshop?

The comments section is the best place to share your thoughts and ideas! Tell us what Mods you’re most excited to see, and who knows? Maybe our creators will find some inspiration from your suggestions!

And remember, the Workshop is just the beginning of what's coming in our big September update. We've got mysterious ancient battlefields with hidden treasures, cool new tech from upgraded masks… but we'll spill the beans on all that good stuff real soon.

This is Maggie signing off. Remember to share your feedback and ideas. Soulmask needs you to become even better! See you next time!
