Don't worry, we have left a few presents under the tree for you all to enjoy in this month's State of the Game. Now, let's get to unwrapping those packages…

Planning for early 2024, laying out what might come out when, getting ready for the Holidays with our families.

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM

Hello everyone!

The tModLoader team and our amazing community of contributors continues to improve tModLoader. On Jan 2nd, 2024 the monthly update release of tModLoader will go live. This month's release mainly contains bug fixes.

As we approach the holiday season, we've aimed to keep this update light on changes where possible, and hope everyone can enjoy the holiday season to the fullest.

We will also be targeting the stable release for January 2nd as opposed to the 1st in lieu of the holiday season.

Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 2nd where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. The in-game news button on the main menu will take you directly to the announcement once it is live.

As always, if you are having issues of any sort, definitely don't hesitate to check out our FAQ on github or reach out to us at our Discord.

TMODLOADER STEAM WORKSHOP

The TML Steam Workshop has over 6000 mods for you to enjoy! Coupled with the in-game mod browser, the TML Steam Workshop is a great way to explore what modded Terraria has to offer - check it out today by clicking the banner above!

WHAT'S NEXT FOR TML?

More features, continuing to evolve and grow what TML can do… and getting ready for 1.4.5.

As always, you can keep track the current progress and much more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)

Developers who are willing to contribute may do so by doing PRs to the tModLoader/tModLoader branch. (See tModLoader/tModLoader)

PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS

Another year come and gone - and another year of the fantastic journey that has been our time on Terraria. So many big things have been accomplished this year, it is hard to really keep count - but we are beyond excited for 1.4.5… and then (fingers VERY crossed), the long-awaited first pass at crossplay! Testing has been going well so far, but we still have the first party approval hurdles to pass - wish us luck!

In the meantime, we made a little festive build for you - one that may or may not contain spoilers. Enjoy!

Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME UPDATES

TERRARIA - THE BOARD GAME DESIGNER DIARY

Here we are again with the latest "Designer Diary" entry from the lead designer for Terraria: the Board Game - Chris Kingsnorth. Let's see what he and the Paper Fort team have been up to over the last month!
—
Hello Terrarians!

Chris here, game developer at Paper Fort Games. I’m back with the final Terraria: The Board Game designer diary of 2023. This month, I’m going to be reflecting on PAX Unplugged 2023 and talking about our previous Kickstarter experience.

If you want to sign up for launch info but don’t want to read the diary, just visit Get Ready for ⛏ Terraria: The Board Game!.

Otherwise, let’s get stuck in
!

PAX Unplugged
From December 1st to 3rd we attended PAX Unplugged (PAXU) held in Philadelphia, US. We had the first in-person showing of our latest boss miniatures (Queen Bee, Eye of Cthulhu and Brain of Cthulhu) including painted versions of these, plus our Wall of Flesh and King Slime. Even though we were still showing our prototype, the game was chosen by well-known board game content creator Grant Lyon as one of his Best Games of PAXU; he was clearly impressed by the modular miniatures!

It was a fantastic chance to share our passion for Terraria with hundreds of fans, as well as attendees unfamiliar with the game. Thanks to everyone who stopped by! For those of you who weren’t there to see the minis, you can watch a timelapse of the painting of Queen Bee over on Instagram. While you’re there; follow us to get more Terraria content!

Why Kickstarter and Why Trust Us?
Terraria: The Board Game will be launched on Kickstarter and we’re currently aiming to kick it off in March 2024. Crowdfunding is often used for board games based on videogames and when used well, it’s a great way to engage the fan community in the final stages of development. We want to involve you all in the process via contests, reveals, and regular updates over the course of the campaign. Having the opportunity to assemble fans in one place and interact in real-time is one of the best things about crowdfunding, and it’s something that we couldn’t do if the game went straight to retail. It also means that we can offer backers exclusive upgrades, promos and more as part of the campaign.

We’ve recently been asked about our prior Kickstarter experience, so let me tell you a little bit about our previous board game campaign; Cosmoctopus!

Cosmoctopus was funded well beyond initial expectations, and fulfilment has been successfully completed for all backers. We’re experienced with the Kickstarter platform and have established strong relationships with trusted manufacturing and logistics partners.

To get an ideas of the kind of campaigns we run, you can read our latest update here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paperfortgames/cosmoctopus-the-board-game/posts/3989888. We’ve also been gathering feedback from Cosmoctopus backers; here are a few quotes about the campaign:

Cosmoctopus is now available worldwide, including at Barnes & Noble, and has been translated into six languages. It has featured in multiple ‘Top Games of 2023’ lists and has received awards including the Dice Tower’s Seal of Approval, Sir Thecos’ Gold Ace of Games and Senet Magazine’s Top Choice for Winter 2023.

Don’t Miss Out!
If you haven’t already, sign up at Get Ready for ⛏ Terraria: The Board Game! and be sure to click through to the Kickstarter ‘notify me’ page. We’d be very grateful if you could share the link with fellow Terrarians via social media; you’re always welcome to tag us in using @paperfortgames.

You can also follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Next month I’ll be sharing more detailed gameplay information, as well as shots of our latest in-production prototype and new artwork!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year,

Chris
